“Trans” fats are considered by many nutrition experts as the worst kind of dietary fat. Now, it appears that processed foods contain more of it than we know.
The NYC Department of Health found that “many foods labeled trans-fat-free” actually “contain some of the artery-clogging gunk.” (Read here for more info.)
The biggest offenders were cookies, crackers and frozen foods. But the label on any “prepared” food may declare “Fat-Free” when it isn’t, because of a loophole in FDA regulations.
So here’s one more good reason to cook for yourself, at home! (Kids love to bake cookies with their parents, don’t they?)
